Zeng Cuo An, a small fishing village located in the Huandao Road, is far less famous than Gulangyu Island. But due to that reason it has been able to retain the original beauty. Here, in addition to tourists, we can also get close to the residents' lives. Here, Taoism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam are integrated together, and there is also the exquisite Mazu worship that is unique to Xiamen.
Whether it is the ancient Cuo in red brick or the Nanyang-style “Fanzai House,” they are all written with the legacy of overseas Chinese. The building is quite characteristic, and the iron artwork and ceramic tiles that are seen everywhere have added a feeling to it. The exotic cafes, food bars, and personalized shops gather here, and a few minutes’ walk from here is the seaside beach by the Huandao Road.
Huandao Road is the main track of the Xiamen International Marathon and is regarded as the most beautiful marathon track in the world. Cycling on the Huandao Road around the island, listening to the waves and savoring the sea breeze are also a pleasure. Nearby Yefeng Village and Huli Ancient Fortress are good places to go.
Huandao Road is 31 kilometers in length and 44-60 meters in width. It is a two-way 6-lane road and is one of Xiamen's scenic tourism roads around the sea. Some are nearby the mountain and the sea; some are bridged build over the sea and some go through the hill. They fully embody the characteristics of subtropical scenery and form a coastal corridor integrating tourism, sightseeing and recreation. What shown in front of people is a beautiful picture of the blue sky, the sea, the beach, the green space and the flowers of the four seasons.
The beauty of Huandao Road lies in its special geographical location. On a sunny day, you can clearly overlook the islands of Jinmen Island, Dadan, and Xiaodan. Those islands whose concept has been separated from us for many years are as clear as if they are within our reach.
Xiamen University was funded by patriotic overseas Chinese Tan Kah Kee and it’s a well-known scenic spot in Xiamen. Several typical architectural complexes and green trees set each other off, presenting a distinctive landscape. These Chinese and Western combination architectures which possess Chinese roof but Western body and are called “wearing Western suit with Chinese bamboo hat” are called “Kah Kee style architecture”.
The clean and graceful campus is surrounded by mountains and sea with beautiful scenery and pleasant climate, ranking the first class nationwide. The Lover’s Lake where Lu Xun and Xu Guangping fell in love with each other, mysterious Lover’s Valley and Furong Tunnel-the longest and the most literary graffiti tunnel in China, all of these attract numerous literary youth and tourists for sightseeing. Going out of gate not very far is the famous Southern Putuo Temple.
Baicheng locates in Huandao South Road. The south of Ximen University and the foot of Baicheng is a beautiful beach, between Yanwu Bridge and Hulishan Battery. Not only Ximen University students, but Xiamen citizens and tourists love wandering here, swimming and enjoying sunset.
It’s a natural leisure park. Ximen University Baicheng has many interesting scenes: several huge mice embellishing the beach, semi-annular overbridge like a giant clock, various abstract squares carved on Baicheng ruins……The beautiful scenery and abundant cultural connotation are combined together.
Southern Putuo Temple is a well-known ancient temple in Xiamen. It locates in front of the famous mountain in Ludao-Wulao Peak, back by craggy mountains and facing harbor with clear water. The scenery there is unparalleled. The temple is separated with Xiamen University only by a wall.
The King Hall, Main Hall and Great Mercy Hall are exquisite and splendid. Each hall consecrates Maitreya, III Buddha, Thousand-Hand Kwan-yin, Four Heavenly Kings and Eighteen Arhats. There are rich and colorful collections of Buddhist in Scripture Library, such as Buddhist texts, Buddharupa, Bronze bell of the Song Dynasty and ancient books. The blood book Saddharmapundarika-sutra and white porcelain Kwan-yin---He Chaozong’s masterpiece are particularly valuable.
Many inscriptions around the temple are reserved and the well-known ones are stone inscriptions autographed by Chen Di and Shen Yourong of Wanli of the Ming Dynasty, and the stele made by Qianlong Emperor. The stone inscription of the Chinese character “fo”(佛) behind the temple highs 18.34 inch with width for 13.1 inch. Five peaks stand behind the temple. The verdant pine and bamboo together with quiet valley create a unique scene. The whole scenery are called “Wulao Peak, higher than cloud”, one of the Xiamen Eight Scenes.
The wooden trestle road around the island is located in the southeast section of Huandao Road. It is a coast corridor that combines tourism and entertainment.
With the total length of 6 km, it is from Baicheng Bathing Beach along Xiamen University to Huli Ancient Fortress, Calligraphy Square, Zeng Cuo An Bathing Beach, Music Square, ruins of Baishi Fortress, Sunny Bay Bathing Beach and many sand-beaches and reef beaches. There is not only the rich cultural landscape, but also graceful natural scenery.
Located in the Huli Mountain in Si’ming District in Xiamen City, Huli Ancient Fortress faces the sea on three sides. It is national cultural heritage site and National 4A level tourist attractions. Built from the 20th year of Guang Xu reign in The Qing Dynasty, it covers an area of more than 70, 000 m2 with castle area of 13,000 m2. The fortress includes areas of fighting top, barracks and back mountain. With fortress structure of semi-bunker style and semi-wall style, it is with European style and Chinese romantic charm of Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was called “the portal of Bamin and the key to Tainnan” in history.
With millions of travellers each year on average, Huli Ancient Fortress is the name card and window of Xiamen as a tourist city as well as the patriotism education base.
“Strange Slope” is located in Wenzeng Road to the Banling Palace in Xiamen, with the length about 50 m and width about 10 m. Any objects will roll to the top of slope from the base of slope. That is where the name “Magic Slope” comes from.
The surveyors of Municipal road bureau researched and concluded that it is the visual errors caused by peripheral references. Magic Slope is not strange actually.
As one of the seven communities under the jurisdiction of Xiagang Street, Sand Slope End, together with its neighboring typhoon shelters, was originally a part of dock and is the microcosm of the life of fishermen in the old Xiamen. On June 10, 2015, it ceased being a dock park and for its long history, became a new scenic spot in Xiamen.
In the creative market of the Arts West Area in Sand Slope End, there are numerous stores of characteristics, old flagstone roads, rusty iron rings on the shore, several egrets occasionally flying by and many other beautify sceneries. Here, you can feel the strong arts culture in which history and fashion converge into each other.
Commonly known as “Wanshi Botanic Garden”, Xiamen Botanic Garden is located in Gulangyu & Mount Wanshi-the southeast corner of Xiamen Island, Fujian. It back by Wulao Peak and Southern Putuo Temple and next to Zhongshan Road trading area. Established from 1960, Xiamen Botanic Garden is the first botanic garden in Fujian with covering an area of 4.93 km2. As the first national AAAAA scenic spot with the collection of vegetative landscape, natural landscape and cultural landscape, Xiamen Botanic Garden provincial and national base for science education, the first environmental education base and ecological education base for protecting the Mother Rivers in Fujian.
By June, 2014, Xiamen Botanic Garden had established dozens of specialized garden including Abies holophylla Maxim Garden, Gymnosperm Area, Palm Island, Rose Garden, Psammophytes Area, Rainforest World, Flowers Garden and Liana Flora Area. Even collect the scenes of Xiamen Big Eight Scenes and Xiamen Small Eight Scenes including “Morning Bell in Heaven”, “Gao Du Qin Cave”, “Millions of Rocks Locking the Cloud”, “Middle Rock Jade Tablet”, “Smell of Taiping Stone” and “Millions of Stone Hidden in Verdant”. Hundreds of stone inscription on craggy rocks are included as well.
